Dear Lawton Community,
It is with a heavy heart that I write to inform you of a serious matter that has affected our school district. A long-term employee of Lawton Community Schools has been found to have embezzled more than $100,000 in district funds over a two-year period. This betrayal of trust is deeply disappointing and does not reflect the values we uphold as a district.
Upon discovering irregularities in our financial records, we immediately launched a thorough internal review and engaged law enforcement. The individual responsible is no longer employed by the district and is currently facing legal consequences. We are fully cooperating with the authorities to ensure justice is served.
While this situation is distressing, I want to assure you that we are taking decisive steps to strengthen our financial oversight and internal controls. We have already begun implementing additional safeguards within our systems and will continue to work with external auditors to ensure this cannot happen again.
Our commitment to transparency, accountability, and the responsible stewardship of public funds remains unwavering. We understand the trust you place in us to manage resources that support our students, staff, and schools—and we are determined to rebuild that trust.
We will continue to keep you informed as we move forward. If you have any questions or concerns, please do not hesitate to reach out to my office directly.
