What a day! On Thursday, October 16th we celebrated the annual Michigan Apple Crunch event with a truly crunch-tastic time!
We were honored to host Robyn Schultz from Schultz Farms in Mattawan, who spoke to our elementary students about the importance of getting local apples from the local plates, as well as health eating habits. Did you know Schultz Farms grows over 30 different varieties of apples?!
Our students were lucky enough to sample five (5) delicious varieties: Crimson Crisp, Golden Delicious, Blondie, Fuji, and McIntosh. The apples for this event were procured and distributed with the help of our amazing partners at ValleyHubb KVCC, who help bridge the gap between local farms and our school cafeterias.
After everyone had their apple in hand, we all took one big, loud CRUNCH together into that fresh, locally grown apple!
Thank you to Robyn and Schultz Farms and ValleyHub for a wonderful, educational event that connected our students to where their food comes from.
